Label AI images, video and audio

How AuthorLabel reads AI markers in uploaded files, suggests a label, and shows a caption under AI images, video and audio.

When you upload a file to the Media Library, AuthorLabel looks for markers that AI tools leave in it:

  • C2PA content credentials;
  • the IPTC Digital Source Type field (for example trainedAlgorithmicMedia);
  • EXIF and XMP fields that name the generator.

If it finds one, the file shows “AI metadata found” and the label is suggested for you. Nothing is applied until you save.

Label a file by hand

Open the file in the Media Library. In the AI label field choose AI-generated, AI-assisted (for example, a photo with an AI background), Not AI or leave it empty. You can also note the tool.

What visitors see

Labeled images, video and audio get a small caption, such as “AI-generated image” or “Image edited with AI”. It works in the block editor, the classic editor, Elementor image widgets and WooCommerce product galleries.

Only realistic AI media that could fool people needs a visible label under Article 50(4). A cartoon or an obvious fantasy picture usually doesn’t. See the guide Do you need to label AI images?
